About Us - Short Street

From Dr. Montessori's own hand book

The educational ideas of Dr. Maria Montessori permeated through the world and inspired countless people to free the child from the shackles of formal education. Instead, Dr. Montessori offered 'a prepared environment', where the child could perform activities with interest, joy and self achievement under the guidance of a trained Helper.

Mongrace Montessori House was established in 1964 by the late Ms. Monjushree Chatterjee and the late Mrs. Grace Wasim Pina with such a view to guide children in their formative years.

The name 'Mongrace' has been coined by combining the first names of the two Founders. The word House implies a home where children are not exposed to the dull atmosphere or regimentation of a school room but are allowed to progress in an environment reminiscent of their homes.

The Suresh Amiya Memorial Trust (SAMT), a public charitable Trust founded by the late Dr. Sadhan C. Dutt for the promotion of art, science, education and healthcare, took over the management of Mongrace Montessori House in 1984.

Mongrace believes that children are the Masters of their Universe. Here we create an environment that encourages discovery learning, exploring and experimenting. Experienced teachers have a sensitive approach. They observe and they direct the child as he moves from one developmental plane to another. The Mongrace education is geared for the peaks and valleys of human formation. Lessons in Mongrace are designed to awaken curiosity, imagination and admiration for the creative and innovative capacity of the human spirit. The Mongrace child is different. They have minds that are constantly evolving, adapting to change and accepting challenges with joy. Welcome to the Magical Montessori World
